Penny was raised in Montana on an organic ranch. She's had a life-long addiction to education, earned four degrees during careers as an educator, EMT, NASA scientist and recently retired from nearly a decade leading Boone County's GIS department. Penny has chaired the Boone County Democrats and a variety of state and regional GIS organizations She is usually found with knitting needles in hand.
Mary Weaver, 2023 chairwoman of PRO IOWA Optimists Iowa 24, resides on a farm in Boone County. The only child of Lee and Margaret Dorris; she learned values that continue regarding community service and seeking justice and equality for all. Mary is a retired public health nurse and believes in causing “good trouble”.
Tim is the former Chair of the Boone County Democrats. In 2018, he was the Democratic nominee for District 48 Representative to the Iowa House. Now, he serves on the Central Committee for the 4th Congressional District, the Iowa Democratic Party State Central Committee, is Chair of the IDP SCC Small Dollar Donor Work Group and Chair of the Pro Iowa 24 candidate recruiting committee.

Kathy Miller is Chair of the Guthrie County Democrats and has 12 years experience leading the group. A lifelong Democrat, Kathy took an active role in the local party 17 years ago as Parade Coordinator and Vice Chair. She served on the Central Committee of the Guthrie County Democrats, DEI Chair, led caucuses, sponsored phone banks, helped plan fundraisers. She's recently moved back to Des Moines, with a goal of bridging rural and urban priorities.
Ralph Rosenberg is a retired attorney and state legislator from Story County. Rosenberg led the Iowa Civil Rights Commission for 7 years. He also led statewide coalitions on children and families and the environment; and served as executive director of Story County Legal Aid, Youth Law Center and Heartland Senior Services.
Barb Wheelock is a lifelong resident of Story County. Over the years, she has been an active volunteer in campaigns and has served as campaign manager for several successful county campaigns. She is an active member of the Story County Democrats and currently serves on the board for the League of Women Voters Ames & Story County and the Iowa Democratic Party Women’s Caucus.
Monica Peitz was born on a farm in northwest Iowa. She and her husband, Alan, have four children and have lived in Perry for 25 years. She is a retired Social Worker. Monica was one of the founding members of Perry Area Democrats, formed in 2017. Monica is serving as PRO IOWA 24 Treasurer.
